East Bay Communities

  1. What feels important for other people to know about San Pablo Avenue as they see my photographs is that San Pablo Avenue is very diverse because it goes through so many communities. In addition, I want other people to know as they see my photographs that the landscape, culture, diversity, people, communities, and neighborhoods along San Pablo Avenue are very different from each other. For example, San Pablo Avenue goes through so many different communities because it was built long before highway 80 was built and it is important because highway 80 and San Pablo Avenue go through the same communities. In addition, before highway 80 was built San Pablo Avenue was the only road that connected all of the communities that were built along San Pablo Avenue which is why the landscape, culture, diversity, people, communities, and neighborhoods along San Pablo Avenue are so different from each other.
  2. I connected to the fact that there is so much to see along San Pablo Avenue, but only if people get out of their cars and walk along San Pablo Avenue. In addition, I connected to the fact that photography captures moments in time that otherwise would not have been captured or that photography provides visuals of what different landscapes look like. A story from our trips along San Pablo Avenue that would be meaningful to tell would be how I got to explore different communities along San Pablo Avenue that I had not previously explored. In addition, I got to know many of my classmates in this class because we spent all day along San Pablo Avenue taking photographs, many of whom I did not know before I took this class.
  3. I set out not knowing what to expect from this class other than the fact that this class is all about taking photographs all along San Pablo Avenue. For example, I explored the different landscapes, cultures, diversity, people, communities, and neighborhoods all along San Pablo Avenue by photographing what I saw as I walked along San Pablo Avenue. I went about my work by picking out photographs that showed off the landscape, diversity, culture, people, communities, and neighborhoods each time we walked along San Pablo Avenue this semester. In addition, each week I picked out the photographs that showed off the different landscapes, cultures, diversity, people, communities, and neighborhoods from each of the trips that we went on this semester by turning in all of these photographs each week.
  4. What has changed for me this semester was that I went from not knowing how to take photographs on a camera other than the one on my phone to being able to take good looking photographs on any camera. For example, I learned how to take photographs that are not too dark or too light by learning how to set the right exposure on my camera before I take my photographs. In addition, I learned how to develop my photographs because I learned how to use lightroom classic to develop my photographs so that all of my photographs look like they were taken by a professional photographer instead of an amateur photographer. Something else that has changed for me this semester was that I got to explore all of the different landscapes, cultures, diversity, people, communities, and neighborhoods all along San Pablo Avenue.
  5. Something that words can add that photographs do not communicate is that words can explain when the photograph was taken along with where the photograph was taken. In addition, words can explain what I heard all around me while I was taking the photograph that photographs do not capture or words can explain what I saw around me that I was not able to capture in the photographs. What people can understand about my images and my sequence is that all of my photographs are intentionally arranged in chronological order so that I can capture all of my trips that I went on this semester in the order that they happened. In addition, all of my photographs in my final sequence are intentionally arranged in chronological order by the places that I visited instead of by when I visited all of these places this semester so I can show other people the journey that I went on as I walked along San Pablo Avenue.
